Paddle Steamer River Cruise and Backwater Trip in Barishal
Bangladesh is a riverine country. About 700 rivers, including tributaries flow through the Country making a waterway of total length around 24,140 kms (15,000 mile). In this trip you will see the real beauties of rivers, back waterways, channels and also determine the spirit of small town people and their business activities surrounding the rivers. The journey will start with the River Cruise in Paddle Steamer of early 19th century from Dhaka and will Visit Archaeological Places in Bagerhat and Backwater Trip in Barishal to watch Floating Market activities and will end up reaching Dhaka by waterways.
Itinerary of Backwater Tour in Barishal:
Day 1:
3:30 pm to 5:30 pm: We will meet with you at your place of residence or Hotel and start our journey to ShadarGhat – the steamer terminal, one of the most crowded places of Dhaka. Expect to face heavy traffic and crowed on the way.
6:00 pm to Over Night: Though the steamer scheduled at 6:00 pm, it is expected to be delayed almost an hr or so. You can experience the busy life and the hurry of people, boats and steamer there and will find unique Boat Shops (The cover shot of Lonely Planet Guide) selling their commodities to the passengers. If you are a solo traveller, our guide may introduce you to a service boy of steamer to take care of you in the overnight journey and leave the steamer.
You will be served dinner at about 8:30 PM in your room (a shared twin bed accommodation reserved for you), After words you can gear up on the chair and breath fresh air, check how fisherman floats on a tiny boat overnight, walk around to determine how people are entertained by showing motion pictures in the steamer or just pass some me time before a good night’s slumber.
Day 2:
6:00 am to 10:00 am: The Steamer will stop in Barishal at around 5:30 am but you need not to draw up so early unless you would like to capture the scenic beauty of village morning. You can draw a lazy time in bed and take in your tea & breakfast whenever you desire. The streamer will pass through a number of rivers and reach Hularhat and you will meet our next template.
10:30 pm to 2:30 pm: You will be taken to different places of Bagerhat such as a Khan Jahan’s mausoleum, Shat Gombuj (Sixty Dome) Mosque and a humble museum. We will have lunch in local restaurant near. We will try to see the returning steamer to reach Barishal, if time allows. Else we will catch a local bus to reach Barishal. You will check in to Hotel and will stay overnight and will have dinner in one of the most popular local restaurant.
Day 3:
5:30 am to 8:30 am: You have to get early to catch the floating market in the morning and will ride a TuckTuck to reach on the bank of Shondha River – will start our back water trip. This is about 25 km journey and on the way you will have the breakfast.
8: 30 am to 5:00 pm: You will be exploring the backwater trip and riverside life of Bangladesh by local engine boat. On the path you will find unique floating vegetable gardens, colorful floating market. If it’s during rainy season, you may find a wood boat market along with Guava Market most of the day long. Equally you will move through rivers and canals, you will find different fishing techniques and how river plays a lively part in village life. Along the path you will see a mechanical boat workshop, wholesale Wood Business activities.
In the noon, you will have our lunch in a homely restaurant in the Atghar Kuriana Bazar and will move through Banaripara by watching wood apple, guava and batter leaf garden. We will then take you to Chakhar and step in Ser e Bangla Museum. A two room museum demonstration life of Ser e Bangla (Tiger of Bengal), who lead Bangladesh during British Period. From there, you will ride TukTuk again and come back to Barishal and in the way back spend few munities to explore Guthia Mosque and DurgaShagor.
6:00 pm to Over Night: You will see our return steamer (it will be not be a paddled one) and commence our return journey to Dhaka.If you are lucky enough to get a full moon in the sky, we reckon you would love spending time on the roof of steamer rather and have some time to think about OWN Life.
We desire to reach Dhaka, very early in the morning and you will be dropped at your Hotel and our spell will come to an end.

- The accommodation will be Twin Share basis in Steamer and Hotel.
- All Transportation are non A/C
- Food will be as local Bengali food.
- The boat in back water will be country engine boat. You may expect some noise from engine.
- Please ware comfortable dress and shoes as the humidity expected to be high. You may keep sun glasses, sunscreen lotion and umbrella for protection of your screen.
